An agreement known as the Services Mobility Agreement has been made between the UK and Switzerland. According to this agreement, professionals from the UK can work in Switzerland for up to 90 days without a work permit. UK nationals don’t need a Swiss Visa to live in Switzerland.

This agreement directly benefits both the professionals from the UK and Switzerland. Switzerland professionals can deliver their contracts in the UK in highly skilled sectors via the Tier 5 International Agreement Visa.

UK Service Industry

The UK Service Industry welcomes this agreement extension and demands more than 80% of the UK GDP and workforce. This extension has started a new trade deal between the two superpowers.

Extension Of Services Agreement

After several meetings, both countries agreed to extend the Services Mobile Agreement. Due to this agreement, the companies in both countries have benefited a lot. The companies have provided services to each other by giving employers in both countries employment opportunities to work in any of these states.

As per this agreement, it is clear that UK professionals, accountants, lawyers, and advertising creatives, can easily travel to Switzerland for up to 90 days a year.

Switzerland is also the 6th largest exporter of the UK. According to the statistics, the exports make more than 12 Billion EUR a year. Apart from that, financial services in both countries account for more than 1.9 Billion EUR.

Both countries have started negotiations and agreed to create a new trade agreement by the start of the following year. Hopefully, this agreement will boost the relations between both countries.

According to Commerce Secretary Kemi Badenoch:

‘’The British and Swiss, both economies are service powerhouses and closely aligned. This agreement is a win-win for both parties. From financial services in Edinburgh to cybersecurity in Wales, the deal ensures UK businesses can capitalise on the huge opportunities on offer.

This is just the beginning. I am delighted to launch negotiations on an ambitious and forward-looking trade deal with Switzerland, which will strengthen our already incredibly strong trade relationship, worth 39 billion GBP last year.’’

Furthermore, Rain Newton-Smith, Chief Economist at the Confederation of British Industry, said:

‘’UK businesses will welcome the extension of the Services Mobility Agreement, announced today by the Trade in Services Council. Since the services sector accounts for four out of every five employments in the UK, the chance to work in Switzerland is extremely advantageous for businesses doing business in the seventh-largest export destination for the UK. The companies hope it will provide crucial momentum as the UK and Switzerland prepare to negotiate an improved FTA.

The CBI’s co-chairmanship of the UK-Switzerland Bilateral Trade and Investment Council will offer businesses an important forum to consider ways to unlock more exciting new business opportunities with Switzerland.’’

The extension of this agreement will strengthen the services trade and forge ahead toward a deeper economic relationship. It will help the UK to achieve its mission and be a global service and technology hub. The UK and Switzerland are natural partners. They are two independent trading nations that feature economic freedom, democracy, protection of human rights, and a good environment.

Both countries are eager to raise the bar for modern trade and to push new frontier innovation. The UK has always helped Switzerland popularise skiing and tobogganing and also founded the world’s first mountaineering club.

The UK and Switzerland scale new heights and trade, preparing to enhance the trading relationship. It is evident that the extension of this agreement will foster new opportunities for both countries and increase employment opportunities.
