As of October 31, IRCC’s backlog decreased to 1,056,100 applications, a 3.73% drop from September. Total applications in inventory also reduced to 2,406,000, with 1,349,900 processed within service standards.

For permanent residents, 63% of applications met service standards, though Express Entry and PNP backlogs increased slightly. Temporary residence applications saw improvements, with study permit and work permit backlogs dropping to 33% and 46%, respectively. Citizenship applications remained steady at a 17% backlog.

IRCC’s efforts to reduce backlogs include setting lower immigration targets, using online portals, conducting virtual citizenship ceremonies, and streamlining judicial review for study permit rejections, which has significantly reduced wait times.

From January to November 2024, Malaysia’s Immigration Department conducted 17,825 enforcement operations, detaining 41,234 illegal immigrants and 1,607 employers for immigration offenses. These violations fall under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah revealed Indonesia topped the list with 12,588 detainees, followed by Bangladesh (7,822) and Myanmar (7,112).
