In the first half of this year, 561 tourists were denied entry to Bali, Indonesia, primarily due to missing visas. Ngurah Rai Immigration data reveals that 243 lacked a visa, while 52 had passports with less than six months' validity.

Additionally, 212 individuals were on a criminal list, 28 were banned, and 20 were wanted by Interpol. Despite these figures, nearly 2.94 million foreigners entered Bali through Ngurah Rai International Airport during the same period.

Australians were the largest group of foreign arrivals, and the main reason for deportation was visa overstays.

Trump Selects Elise Stefanik for UN, Tom Homan as Border Enforcement Chief

United States

#immigration

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as UN ambassador and Tom Homan as the new "border czar" to lead immigration control.

Stefanik, a close ally, will need Senate confirmation, while Homan's role does not. Known for his hardline stance, Homan is set to implement Trump's extensive deportation agenda, dubbed "Operation Aurora," aiming to expel undocumented migrants.

Trump has amplified rhetoric against migrants, calling them "vicious criminals" and vowing to stop what he describes as an "invasion." Critics warn that his approach could worsen border humanitarian issues, with Homan emphasizing plans for "humane" enforcement by ICE.

UK’s AI Immigration Tool Sparks Concerns Over Bias and Accountability

United Kingdom

#immigration

A Home Office AI tool, IPIC, is influencing immigration decisions, leading critics to worry it may allow officials to approve automated, life-altering choices without scrutiny. Designed to prioritize and manage enforcement actions, IPIC handles cases by analyzing personal data, including biometric, health, and criminal information.

Campaigners, however, fear this AI system could worsen injustices and facilitate racial bias. Critics claim it simplifies rubber-stamping decisions, especially on deportations, making accountability challenging.

Though the government insists humans oversee every decision, groups like Privacy International urge transparency. Parliament is also debating a data bill that could expand AI use across UK public services.
