#population
The Netherlands' population increased by 39,000 in the first half of this year, reaching 17.98 million by June's end, per new CBS data. This growth is one-third lower than the same period in 2023, due to fewer immigrants, more emigration, and higher deaths.
While 138,000 people immigrated and 92,000 emigrated, the net immigration growth of 46,000 was down by a quarter from 2023. European immigration, affected by Ukrainian refugees, rose by 13,700, but new arrivals from Asia, especially India, slightly decreased.
Births totalled 81,300, with 88,400 deaths, resulting in 7,200 more deaths than births. The birth rate fell to 1.4 babies per woman, below the stable population rate.

Italy will issue an additional 10,000 migrant work visas in 2024 for caregivers of the elderly and disabled. This is part of a broader effort to address the country’s aging population and labor shortages.
The new quota builds on the 452,000 work visas announced for 2023-2025, marking a 150% increase from prior years. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government aims to curb illegal migration while expanding legal pathways.
New rules also tighten anti-fraud measures in the visa system, targeting countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Additionally, NGOs conducting sea rescues face stricter regulations, requiring immediate reporting of movements to authorities.

Dubai has introduced an online system through the "Dubai Now" app for all domestic worker visa services. This initiative simplifies processes like applying for, renewing, and canceling residence permits.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) collaborated on this unified platform. The process now requires only four steps, reducing service channels from four to one and cutting processing time from 30 days to five.
Visits to service centers have dropped to two, and required documents have been reduced from 10 to four, saving Dh400 per transaction. The rollout is part of Mohre’s Work Bundle project.

US Embassy Introduces New Visa Process for Nigerian Applicants
Nigeria
United States
#visapolicy
#interview
The US Embassy in Nigeria has announced new procedures for immigrant visa applicants, with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025. Applicants must now visit the Lagos Consulate General twice during the process.
The first visit involves an "In-Person Document Review" with a consular officer to verify documents and address any missing ones. This step ensures applicants are prepared for their interviews. The second visit will be the scheduled visa interview.
Applicants who skip the initial review will need to reschedule their interview. The new system aims to enhance efficiency and minimize delays caused by incomplete documentation, improving the overall visa process.
