Ara Institute of Canterbury

ABOUT

Abundantly known as Ara, the institute of technology was first established in 2016 due to a merger. This merger was of Aoraki Polytechnic ad Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT). It concentrates on applied tertiary training. Apart from the technology-related programs, the institute also offers compatible studies in Arts, Creativity, Language and Hospitability.

During a very short time, Ara has spread over six campuses gaining the title of one of the largest tertiary institutes in New Zealand. In 2016, TANZ eCampus started offering online learning options to students and learners throughout the country.

The university works closely with the professional industry to ensure that students have relevant skills for employment and a wide range of job opportunities. In Ara, subject choices include engineering, business, nursing, architecture, creative arts, computing, hospitality, languages, science, broadcasting and outdoor education. These programs extend from Level 1 to Level 9.

STUDENTS

Ara welcomes about 14,000 students each year. These students may be national or international. According to the officials, about 1800 international students from 50 countries are getting admission yearly. The staff works closely with the students and provides them with relevant skills.

Based on the South Island of New Zealand, Ara offers international students the prospect of combining their studies with the beautiful landscape and friendly lifestyle of the culture of New Zealand. As a foreign student in the university, you get a chance to participate in many events and activities. Ara has an inclusive and robust sense of community, and student life here is more than just study. Many events are organized by students themselves, which include concerts, plays, shows, musical and degustation dinners.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Ara has campuses in four different cities, all of which provide students with proper residence. Students can choose to live in flats or opt for a private board. Ara’s ÅŒtautahi House offers apartment-style living spaces with shared flats with other students.

As for the International students, the institute guides them to choose homestay instead of living in a flat. It can provide the students with a family-like environment to settle down and learn the language. This also allows you to see and observe the culture closely. The university carefully supervises all homestays.
