CMU-Carnegie Mellon University is a private institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Started in 1900, this institute is the result of a merger of Mellon Institute of Industrial Research and Carnegie Institute of Technology. The university has independent schools and seven colleges, including the College of Engineering, Dietrich College of Social Sciences and Humanities, College of Fine Arts, Heinz College of Public Policy & Information Systems, Mellon College of Science, and the School of Computer Science and Tepper School of Business.

Carnegie Mellon University has a student body of 15,818 across its multiple campuses from 117 countries and has an active alumni support of over 112,000. Student life at CMU includes over 400 student associations and organizations, art galleries and several unique traditions. These student organizations provide social, media, service, spiritual, academic, sports, recreational, political, cultural, religious, and governance opportunities.

The campus houses of CMU houses several galleries, such as the Frame, which is a student-devoted gallery, and there is another art gallery named Regina Gouger Miller Gallery, which specializes in contemporary professional artists. The Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, School of Music, and theatrical organization Scotch'n'Soda organize and arrange a variety of performing arts events.

The Athletic Association of the university was founded by the Carnegie Mellon Tartans. Currently, the varsity teams of the university are fielded in football, basketball, cross country, track, soccer, golf, diving, swimming, tennis, volleyball, rowing and hockey.

Accommodation

The university offers conventional housing for its students through coeducational, special interest, and single-gender options. Students can choose from a variety of lodging options. The three options for first-year students are prime, standard, and apartment-style living.
