International Islamic University Malaysia

Created in 1983, IIUM-International Islamic University Malaysia is a public research institute in Malaysia. The University is funded by OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperations), an organization of 57 Islamic countries. It was based on Islamic principles and offered various Islamic studies and scientific research programs. Also, it may seem like the University has roots with its counterparts in Bangladesh and Pakistan, but that is not the case.

The philosophy of this institute is inspired by the outcomes of the First Conference on Muslim Education held in 1977 at Makkah. International Islamic University Malaysia integrates worldview and Islamic values into its scientific, technical and humanities curriculum, befitting IIUM slogan ‘Garden of Knowledge and Virtue’. This is mirrored in the IIUM logo and its educational philosophy. The University aspires to restore the roles of Muslims in knowledge creation. Education and acquisition contribute to improving and enhancing the quality of life for all humankind. Students at the University are trained to be responsible, imbued with good ethics, professionalism and high moral values, lifelong learning, entrepreneurial and managerial as well as leadership qualities.

International Islamic University Malaysia has several campuses, each providing a different field of study across several states of Malaysia. In Kuala Lumpur, the Gombak campus of the IIUM houses the University’s administration, Kulliyyah (faculties), IIUM Academy, and Center for Language. The other campuses of the University are in Pagoh, Gambang, Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan.

IIUM is a home for over 2,700 students. Most of these students are Malaysian, while there are also many international students. Furthermore, the University is not only limited to Muslim students, as one might assume and gladly welcomes students of any faith or background.

At International Islamic University Malaysia, students are accommodated with a wide variety of recreational and sports facilities and services across all campuses to encourage constructive and productive leisure activities amongst its academic community. This is to apricate the vision to produce students with holistic and inclusive personalities and promote a healthy and active lifestyle amongst the academic community.
