About

ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon is a public tertiary education institution in Portugal. Located in Cidade Universitária, in the centre of Lisbon, adjoining the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT) and Institute of Social Sciences (ICS) of the University of Lisbon. As of today, this institute is considered a fully-fledged public research university.

Through research, teaching and community services activities, ISCTE plays a prominent role in educating qualified personnel and specialists, whose scientific, technical and cultural skills enable them to contribute to the country's sustainable development and the world.

The university’s strategic objectives are quality, innovation, development, and internationalization of an entrepreneurial culture. It is one of three Portuguese universities which picked the Foundation Regime. ISCTE encourages its students to fully explore and push their potential, develop their ability for flexibility and initiative and complement their education and skills with international experience. This enables them to adapt necessary skills which are the need in the global labour market. The university ensures and demonstrates a high employability rate of its graduates in most courses. This shows the prestige and teaching quality of this institute.

Students

The campus of ISCTE has a vibrant and multicultural environment. It welcomes near 20% of students from around 80 countries. With about 9000 students enrolled in undergraduate (46%) and graduate (54%) programs, 220 non-teaching staff and 450 teachers, the university is proud to be one of the country's most innovative and dynamic universities.

Founded in 1988, the ISCTE Student’s Union has become one the most active and largest such unions in the country, representing and working on behalf of more than 10,000 daily. With its significant experience in managing associations, this structure is famous in all corners of the country for its dedication, commitment, and professionalism towards innovation year after year.

UniSport is ISCTE’s Sports Unit which aims to promote the well-being of the academic community at the university, creating conditions that integrate academic life with high-calibre athletic performance. Its mission is to incorporate the sports cause into education. 

Accommodation

Due to the high demand for housing at the ISCTE-IUL residences, most university population lives in other housing. To meet the accommodation need of visiting teachers and students, the university provides housing at Professor José Pinto Peixoto University Residence.
