ABOUT

Leiden University is the most reputed and oldest public research institute in The Netherlands. It offers studies in seven faculties but is well known for its services in Social Sciences. The University was a reward from William, Prince of Orange, as Leiden posed resistance to Spanish attacks.

Recognized for its historical foundations and prominence in social sciences, Leiden University became prominent during Dutch Golden Age. Leiden's International reputation and environment of intellectual tolerance of the Dutch Republic attracted scholars and intellectuals from all around Europe. During this era, this institute became home to individuals such as Rembrandt, René Descartes, Hugo Grotius, Christiaan Huygens, Baron d’Holbach, and Baruch Spinoza. The list of Leiden University's alumni is way more than anticipation. It produced sixteen Nobel Laureates, including Albert Einstein. It is also known for being the University of the Dutch Royal family.

This institute has 7 academic faculties and over 50 departments while hosting more than 40 international and national research centres and institutes.

STUDENTS

This institute is home to about 27,000 students in various undergraduate and graduate programs. There are about 7,000 international students from around the world.

At Leiden University, there are various organizations for students to join. Students can join Leiden United or International Student Network or join a generic student society or club. Leiden United aims to bring together a community of all nationalities and cultures in Hague and Leiden. It arranges excursions, dinners and social events that unite international and Dutch students and help to create relations and friendships for life.  USC (University Sports Centre) allows students to participate in competitive or individual recreational sports. It is a completely renovated sports complex that covers more than 60 sports.

Leiden city is growing as an internationally oriented city for students. Here students get an excellent mix for an incredible student experience. This lively and historic city is made for students. Its compact and atmospheric centre has everything that students could need: from student association to student accommodation. Living and studying in the Hague broaden students' perspective on the world and gives opportunity to develop an international network. 

ACCOMMODATION

Generally, Leiden University does not facilitate the students with proper accommodations. So, the students are supposed to look for an off-campus residence. There are few rooms for international students and are allotted to early applicants.
