It is in the city of Lund, Sweden. Lund University is one of the oldest public research universities in Northern Europe. The university was first founded in the 15th century. Still, the formal foundation took place in 1966 after Scania became a part of Sweden in 1958. Since that day, it has formed 640 partners in about 70 countries worldwide. This university is well-recognized for the number of programs it offers to study in. Spreading over nine faculties allows you to choose from over 250 programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

This institution is known as one of Scandinavia’s most significant research universities. Lund University ranks among the top performers in the EU (European Union) in terms of publication in scientific journals. The university is also to research grant receivers in Sweden. Most of these grants come from government-funded bodies. European Union is the second largest research funder. It is active in many important international research areas such as climate change, stem cell biology and nanotechnology.

Lund University is considered a home for more than 44,000 students, both national and international. About 20% of the students at the university are international from 130 countries worldwide. The list of notable alumni is far from complete. It includes four Nobel Prize winners, several prime ministers, intellectuals, and business tycoons.

The Student Unions at Lund University represent students on decision-making boards of the university and secure their rights, career, and housing options. There are 9 student unions representing 9 academic facilities. These unions run services such as a daycare centre, a loan institute, and a housing information website.

At Lund University, there are many opportunities to stay fit or participate in sports. Gerhallen Lund offers around 200 different activities and classes every week, for example, yoga, pilates, BodyPump, spinning, functional training and dance. It also has a fully equipped and recently renovated gym, which is open 24 hours a day.


The university offers limited accommodations for students. It does its best to facilitate the students, but it can be challenging to accommodate everyone. However, international students are preferred, so there is not much need to worry about them.
