MIT-Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a private research institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Founded in 1861, this university has since played a vital role in developing science and modern technology. As of January 2021, 26 Turing Award winners, 98 Nobel laureates, and 8 Fields Medalists have been affiliated with the university as faculty members, alumni, or researchers. In addition, 29 National Medals of Technology and Innovation recipients, 58 National Medals of Science recipients, 80 Marshall Scholars, 50 MacArthur Fellows, 16 Chief Scientists of the U.S. Air Force, 41 astronauts, and numerous heads of state have been affiliated with Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Students

Around 11,000 students attend MIT, roughly 60 per cent of them studying at the graduate level. There are over 500 recognized student groups and organizations at the university, including the Tech student newspaper, a campus radio station, an annual entrepreneurship competition, weekly film screenings, and a crime club. Faculty, staff and students are involved in 50 public service and educational outreach programs through Edgerton Center, MIT Museum, and MIT Public Service Center.

Around 31 varsity sports are sponsored by MIT, and it has one of the three broadest NCAA Division III athletic programs. The university participates in NCAA's Division III, the New England Football Conference, Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) for Men's Water Polo and NCAA's Division I Patriot League.

Accommodation

Massachusetts Institute of Technology housing consists of 9 graduate and 11 undergraduate dormitories. All undergraduate students must live in university residences during their first year of study.

HRS (Housing & Residential Services) advances and enhances MIT's learning and living environment. As stewards of residential spaces where students live, study, eat, recreate, socialize and build community, HRS staff and team help ensure each residence space is supportive and welcoming of MIT's distinctive residential experience.
