Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne)

Swiss federal institute of technology Lausanne (The Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), established in 1969, is research university. It has a specialization in the field of engineering and physical sciences. It's Europe's most cosmopolitan university. Thus, it has professors, students, and staff from over 120 countries.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology is focalized on three missions: research, teaching, and technology transfer. EPFL have five schools and two colleges in which it explores the research field and offers a range of programs. It has the following five schools.

  • Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Computer and Communication Science
  • Basic Sciences
  • Engineering
  • School of Life Sciences

And it has the following two colleges.

  • College of Management of Technology
  • College of Humanities

In Switzerland EPFL is active in five cantons. These are Vaud, Geneva, Valais, Fribourg, Neuchâtel. Also has an associated campus in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.

EPFL prides itself on having around 12,000 students. These include approximately 58% of foreign nationals. Moreover, it has about 6000 undergrad students and nearly 6000 postgrad students.

For all academic queries, the student service desk is the primary contact. Suppose you are an undergraduate or doctoral student with a question or problem. In that case, the student services hotline is a focal point to access all your inquiries.

Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne doesn’t provide accommodation. However, a housing society is developed that connects the students with housing facilities.

The university warns you to beware of scams. Because of recently increased notice of scams, the housing society provides ads on recommended places. And agencies put the list of new houses daily. So, you should apply as soon as possible because of the high demand.

Writing a "Demande de location" letter in French and sending it to all facilities may help. Secondly, you must focus on explaining the situation in the letter. For example, where you are arriving and desperate need for a place to stay etc. Despite this, you can attach your essential documents to impress them. But you still need to apply for each apartment individually.

Following are the different rankings of EPFL.

  • By QS world university ranking, it is placed in 14th position.
  • Times Higher Education academic ranking of world universities (Shanghai-Ranking), is ranked 40th.
  • According to US News & World Report Best Universities Rankings, it was ranked 70th in 2022.
  • It is 3rd best university in Switzerland, according to US News & World Report.
  • Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Jiao Tong University) ranks it 90th.
  • In Engineering & Technology, Times Higher Education ranks it 19th.
