Tsinghua University

Tsinghua University was first established in 1911 and has been the leading University in Mainland China. The University was built due to a conflict between China and America. It all started with the Boxer Rebellion against the foreign influence on China, which cost the country $30 million.

As one of the prominent and oldest research institutions in China, this University has a strong commitment to applied research, basic research and scientific innovation. It has 55 departments and 19 schools with faculties of literature, science, art, engineering, philosophy, history, management, economics, education, law, and medicine. As for now, the University offers degrees in 51 bachelor's, 139 master and 107 doctoral-level degrees.

STS Tsinghua Center is committed to enhancing the quality of education, research, and public debate on the role of technology and science in contemporary societies. Research projects in this centre range broadly across the historical, political, philosophical and social studies of technology and science. But STS Center faculty have developed a special focus on science communication, S&T Strategy, technology governance, innovation policy, etc.

It has also provided the world with several great names, including a couple of Presidents of China.

The University is responsible for providing quality education to more than 40,000 students. These students also include over 5,000 international students.

It has more than 263 registered student organizations. These associations cover five domains: physical training, arts, humanities, public welfare, and science and technology. Some major associations are RISE (Rural International Student Exchange), SAGA (Student Association of Global Affairs, and ASIC (Association of Student International Communication). These student clubs and societies encourage students to participate in various extracurricular activities.

Every year student organizations collab and organize various events and activities for international students, including welcome parties, visit Chinese historical places, New year's party, sports competition, graduation parties etc.

Ma Yuehan Cup is an annual sports competition in Tsinghua. It is specially dedicated to physical activities and education. A representative from all faculties participates in the programs such as field, ball games, track games, and even chess games.

Because of the large number of students getting into Tsinghua University, the University is currently unable to provide on-campus residence to everyone. So, if you want on-campus accommodation, you must apply online according to the date given by the University.

If you want off-campus residence, you will have to apply early. The University does not provide much guidance regarding the off-campus stay. Still, once you find a place, you have to create a certificate for your stay at the police station.

  • By QS World Ranking, Tsinghua University ranks 14.
  • According to Times Higher Education Ranking, Tsinghua University ranks 16.
  • U.S. News and World Report rank Tsinghua University at 26.
