About

Primarily known as Universidade da Beira Interior, the University of Beira Interior is a public institute in the city of Covilha, Portugal. Created in 1979, this university offers all academic degrees and diversity in its courses. It offers degrees in fields ranging from medicine, biomedical sciences, biochemistry and aeronautical engineering to industrial design, mathematics, fashion design, philosophy and economics. This institute is named after the historical Beira region, the most interior area of this region, meaning interior Beira. This era mainly comprises the Castelo Branco and Gaurda districts in today’s Centro Region.

All courses at the University of Beira Interior are taught in the Portuguese language, and the teaching method at the university is undertaken by integrating practical and theoretical processes. Theoretical lessons are supported by valuable lessons where teachers guide students to discuss and solve problems. In suitable lessons, students are challenged to solve problems in computer facilities, ateliers or laboratories and apply the theoretical knowledge they have learned.

The mission of UBI is to promote the high-level qualification, transmission, production, dissemination and criticism of knowledge, science, culture and technology through teaching, research and study.

Students

At the University of Beira Interior, numerous associations and societies stimulate and make academic life more productive. The institution's life is in students; they make the university a place of knowledge, creation, and culture. Scientific backgrounds of students are complemented by integrating groups to promote course, culture, activity or sport.

The Student Ombudsman is the student representative body at UBI. The main activities of the Ombudsman are to develop the conjunction between Pedagogical Councils, Student Action Services and Student Associations. The function of these associations is to promote and defend students' interest and legitimate rights within the campus. Ombudsman activities are regulated and approved by the General Council at the university.

SASUBI (Social Action Services of the University of Beira Interior) promotes the routine of sports by the UBI’s entire academic community. The university promotes the sporting and visionary spirit and promotes a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

The economic need for the students is also provided by the SASUBI through scholarships, which attribute social support to students. This also promotes equal opportunities for students to be on the road to success. DGES directly distributes these grants.

Accommodation

Currently, the student is accommodated at 7 residential halls of SASUBI. It has a capacity of 821 beds. Preferences are given to international and Portuguese students from other universities under mobility programs.
