The University of California—Berkeley is situated roughly 15 miles from San Francisco in what is known as the Bay Area. The public university, also known as Berkeley or Cal, was founded in 1868. It is one of the world’s leading educational institutes and is ranked as a premier public institution. This university is famous for the quality and size of its laboratories and libraries, the scope of its publications and research, and the distinction of its students and faculty. In National Ranking, Berkeley’s graduate and undergraduate programs are among the best in variety.

More than 70 per cent of Berkeley students study at the undergraduate level. The university is divided into 14 colleges and schools, including the highly ranked Haas School of Business, College of Chemistry, College of Engineering, School of Public Health and School of Law. The academic calendar is semester-based, and English is the language of instruction.

Students

Its fourteen colleges and schools offer over 350-degree programs and enrol 35,000 undergraduate and 12,000 graduate students. Cal offers students a wide arena for personal and academic growth. The “Berkeley Discovery” is a campus-wide program to transform undergraduate education. This program helps you to develop your passion into discovery projects that deepen learning, better the world and launch your future.

AUSC-Associated Students of the University of California is one of the only autonomous student associations in the country. This organization tackles issues important to Berkeley students in collaboration with university administrators. (examples-gender equity issues, mental health services, 24 hours study spaces, etc.)

Accommodation

UC Berkeley students are offered various accommodation options, including affiliated residences or university-owned fraternities, private residences and sororities, and cooperative housing. The university runs 12 different residence halls: 7 undergraduate residence complexes or halls, both with and without themes; re-entry student housing; family student housing; and optional international student housing at UC Berkeley’s International House.
