ABOUT

The University of California, San Francisco is a research university dedicated to health sciences. UCSF was initially founded as Toland Medical College in 1864, but later this Institute was affiliated with the University of California. It is a significant centre of biological and medical research.

UC San Francisco is considered one of the world's preeminent medical and life sciences institutes. Due to prominent research outputs National Institute of Health provides most of the research funds to this university. This Institute is driven by the idea that when the best teaching, research, and patient care converge will deliver breakthrough that helps heal the world.

This Institute is the world's leading expert in almost every area of health sciences. It is ranked top among numerous biomedical fields, from immunology and genomics to speciality care for children and women. UC San Francisco is home to five Nobel Laureates who have advanced in neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, ageing and stem cells.

Nationally it is ranked among the best medical school in the country for its clinical training, nursing programs and pharmacy school. The UC San Francisco has been treating patients and training residents for over 50 years.

STUDENTS

UCSF, the only University of California's dedicated campus for health sciences, is home to professional programs in various medical fields. This Institute offers dentistry, nursing, medicine, physical therapy, and pharmacy programs. It also educates postdoctoral and graduate students. University has a total learner population of 6,287, including students, residents and 1,166 postdocs.

At UC San Francisco, there are more than 180 registered campus organizations. These associations cover various social, cultural, educational, political, artistic, and spiritual interests. UCSF has the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA), which improves student life at the university. It focuses on discussing institute policies, advocating students' interests and fostering the relationship between academic programs.

ACCOMMODATION

Housing Services at UC San Francisco offer on-campus housing for students, postdocs, clinical fellows, faculty, and staff. Unit types in this housing are single rooms, studios for couples and families and shared double rooms. The Institute's housing properties are near Mission Bay, Parnassus, and Mount Zion. All these locations have easy access to USCF by the Shuttle System.

The housing application is open for the whole year. Still, if you are looking for a specific accommodation type, you should submit your applications in March. At this time, you have a maximum chance of getting your first housing choice. You can submit your housing application on the UCSF Housing Website.

If you plan to live off-campus, you can find rental options on Housing Services Off-Campus Rental Website. This platform provides a free referral service for rental properties in the city.
