ABOUT

The University of Göttingen (or Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, known casually as Georgia Augusta) is mainly a public research university in the city of Göttingen, Germany. It was established in 1734 by George II, Elector of Hanover and King of Great Britain.

Georgia Augusta was successful in producing or giving temporary scientific shelter to world-class researchers throughout the ages who have worked to the university's international reputation in the arts as well as in the natural sciences.

Gottingen is connected with over 40 Nobel Prize winners who researched and resided here during their times. According to an official exhibition conducted by the University of Göttingen in 2002, around 44 Nobel Prize winners had been affiliated with the University of Göttingen as alumnus, researchers or faculty members by that same year alone.

ACCOMMODATION

First-year students are mostly housed in residence halls. Upper-level students are usually accommodated in college apartments. Transfer students live in a big area called The Village.
