ABOUT

The University of Groningen began in 1614 and is one of the most prestigious research institutions in the Netherlands. The University is firmly rooted in the northern Netherlands. It is spread over eleven faculties and nine graduate schools. It offers degrees in more than 175 programs. Over time, the University has hosted nine Spinoza Prize winners, four Nobel Prize winners and various Royal family members.

This is a thriving international research institute where research and teaching are integrally connected. It provides high-quality research and teaching, is internationally oriented, works actively with business, and respects differences in talent and ambition. STUDENTS

This institute hosts more than 30,000 students in different programs. These students can be both national and international. It hosts many international students each year. Out of 30,000, about 9,000 are considered international.

Groningen city is known as a student city in the Netherlands. Around one-third of city residents are students at either Hanze University of Applied Sciences or the University of Groningen. Through ACLO, the University offer a broad range of courses and sporting activities. Almost every sport has its association and offers facilities for students at discounted rates.

The University of Groningen has several student associations and societies that organize activities and social events for its members, as well as study and student clubs that are mainly concerned with courses and specific faculties.

ACCOMMODATION

Like most universities in the Netherlands, the University of Groningen does not offer on-campus accommodations. But with SSH Student Housing, the University provides student houses located in various locations in Groningen.

The majority of students live in private living spaces. So, it doesn't matter if you are an international student; you should start looking for an off-campus residence. But the off-campus residence is not as simple as it may seem. Students are advised to apply for residence at least six months before moving to the city. Moreover, students are directed not to choose the University if they do not have proper accommodations.
