Being a Christian-inspired institute, the University of Navarra works as a non-profit organization. The University began its activities in 1952, promoted by St. Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei. This prelature of the Catholic Church aims to encourage the search for the fullness of Christian life in work, family and ordinary occupations. The University of Navarra has 7 campuses (Pamplona, San Sebastián, Madrid, Barcelona, New York, Munich and São Paulo) and a Clinic with two sites, in Pamplona and Madrid.

The main campus of the University at Pamplona has 13 schools, the Institute of Culture and Society, CIMA (Center for Applied Medical Research), CIFA (the Center for Research in Applied Pharmacology), and the University Hospital in Pamplona takes care of around 160,000 patients each year. The University has 3 IESE Business School campuses in Madrid, Barcelona and New York. The new projects of the University are the Center of Bioengineering, the Center of Nutrigenomics, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Center of Neglected Diseases.
