About

The origin of the University of Proto dates to the 18th century; it is one of Europe's most prestigious and significant Higher Education Institutions. The university carries out research and academic activities in its 15 schools and 50 scientific research units spread across three campuses in Proto city. Here students get an exceptional variety of courses within its 14 faculties and a business school. Currently, the university offers around 600 training programs per year (from continuous professional training to degrees); this institute has a teaching solution for everyone.

The Research and Development Centers at the University of Proto vary noticeably, from large centres to small units, conducting interdisciplinary or specialized work, independent or faculty integrated. These centres are present in almost every field and show a shared vision toward modern research. Most of these R&D centres aim to develop cooperation links between external entities and universities, such as governmental organizations or enterprises. Some of most recognized centers are INESC-Porto (Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Research Institute of Computer Systems) and IBMC (Instituto de Biologia Molecular e Celular, Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology).

Students

Founded in 1911, this institute has a large community of over 31,000 students, including around 3,280 international students. Studying at the University of Proto is a dream of most young Portuguese and an increasing number of students worldwide.

This is an inclusive institute. Students struggling with financial difficulties, students with special needs, and students facing any problem, the University of Proto gives special attention to all of them. Students enrolled in this university can access services and facilities outside the campus with just their U.Proto Card. Apart from this, the university offers the academic community 20 eating facilities, 9 halls of residence, free medical and social services and other services and facilities for daily needs. Moreover, being enrolled in the University of Proto, the experience goes beyond the lecture halls, labs and libraries. Here students can access a broad range of extracurricular activities, off and on campus.

Accommodation

The International Office at the University of Proto seeks to provide all international students with the assistance of finding housing and spending their study period at the university comfortably. There are four accommodation options: On-campus university residence halls, shared flats, homestay, or a temporary stay at hostels.
