ABOUT

The University of Zurich is best-ranked and largest university in Switzerland. It was founded in 1833. UZH offers 100 different subjects within 150 institutes. These subjects are distributed in the following faculties:

  • Philosophy
  • Human Medicine
  • Economic Sciences
  • Law
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences
  • Theology and Veterinary Medicine

University is scattered all over Zurich, with four campuses. Moreover, the significant campuses are Irchelpark and Oerlikon campuses. These campuses are located in the centre of the city.  The remaining two campuses are Schlieren Campus and City campus.

As a member of the "League of European Research Universities" (LERU) and "Universitas 21" (U21) network, the university has a prominent place in innovative research work. Especially in the field of molecular biology, brain research and anthropology.

STUDENTS

The University of Zurich prides to be the city's largest university. There are 30,000 enrolled students and researchers. Also, there are 19% of foreigners studying at this university.

The admission office assists international students regarding their applications. Secondly, it also provides consultation if students are willing to reorient their field of study. Moreover, the Student advisory department helps students with any academic questions related to their program. In addition, the International scholar centre is there for international PhD candidates. Likewise, it allows postgrad students to work and study at UZH. 

However, various student associations of different communities from all over the world also connect international students culturally.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation can be an issue in Zurich. However, UZH doesn't provide any housing facility for students. In fact, not a single university in this city administers student housing. However, different institutions linked with the university provide accommodation facilities. But universities don't operate these institutes. Therefore they work independently.

The university's housing office makes it easy for you. This office provides an overview of valuable addresses for living spaces. And which are reasonably priced. Also, you can book it on short notice. So it is better to search and arrange the accommodation in good times because the demand is too high for housing.

Youthful hostel and City backpacker are two central hostels recommended by the university for temporary living arrangements. Moreover, on university notice boards, you can find different accommodation offers.

UZH also warns students to beware of fraud apartment websites, which offer non-existing apartments. So, if you are willing to rent an apartment, so it is better to handle the logistics with a friend or lawyer. If you wants to rent an apartment, you must pay one month's rent in advance.
