Apply for New Zealand Essential Skills Work Visa if you have been offered a full-time job and have the essential qualifications and experience. Before providing you with the job, your employer must have checked to see if any New Zealanders were available to do the work, unless you are staying with the same employer, in the same role, and in the same region. 

If you get this visa, you might be able to help your partner and dependent children apply for visas.

You must not be required to spend more than 12 months in a row outside of New Zealand.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

  • have an offer of full-time work.
  • provide proof of your identity.
  • be of good character.
  • bear good health.
  • have essential skills to do this job.

Documents

Provide the following information to the relevant body for getting an Essential Skills Work Visa.

  • Copy of Passport
  • Passport size pictures
  • Phone and Email Adress
  • Your homeland and New Zealand address.
  • Evidence of your job advertisement on platforms such as Indeed and Linkdin.
  • Employment contract
  • CV, Employer Reference letter, pay slips, tax records.
  • Proof of your trade or academic qualifications.
  • ANZSCO Code for your job.
  • Medical certificate
  • Medical and Chest X-Ray certificate.
  • Police Clearance Certificate from your homeland or from a country where you have lived for more than five years.
  • INZ 1113 Employer Supplementary Form.
  • INZ 1225 Work Visa Declaration Form.

Process

Your employer must complete an 'Employer Supplementary Form'. It should explain the job which the employer has offered. Your employer must also show that genuine efforts were made to hire New Zealanders.

Make sure you have the required documents for the visa before you apply. Also, it would help if you had an idea about the visa processing time.

Visa Processing Time
This visa processing time is one month. It may take longer sometimes, so you should be ready for that.

How to Apply
Apply online, upload your documents and pay applicable fees. They will inform you if there is anything else you need to do. Suppose you are in New Zealand, and your current temporary visa expires before your new visa is granted. In that case, they will issue you an interim visa to let you stay in New Zealand lawfully.

You can stay for up to three years, based on the pay rate of the job.

Fees
Fees for the Essential Skills Visa are $440 plus the Immigration Levy of $55. Employers are encouraged to meet these costs.

Extension

Essential Skills Visas have changed to simplify application processing and extend visa duration. Now, you can apply for an extension before your visa expires.
