A 10-year Long-term Resident Visa (LTR) is intended to draw highly qualified foreigners who want to settle permanently in Thailand. It is thought to support economic growth and encourage foreign investment in the nation during this post-pandemic period. Over the next five years, their government wants to sponsor 1 million eligible foreigners with this special visa.

Eligibility

Four categories of foreign nationals are eligible for the Long-term Resident Visa, including:

  • Foreigners with high incomes
  • Retired foreigners
  • Foreign nationals wishing to conduct remote work from Thailand.
  • Foreign experts with "unique" abilities.

Documents

You must produce the following documents while applying for this visa.

  • Copies of passport that are valid for at least six months.
  • Health insurance to cover your hospitalization expenses in Thailand.
  • The foreign retirees must provide a health insurance plan that covers at least 50,000 USD in medical costs in Thailand. Additionally, they must provide evidence of personal earnings of at least 80,000 USD per year for the two years preceding the application date.
  • Proof that you have an investment of 500,000 USD in the country.
  • Proof of prior work experience in the relevant field.
  • A service agreement or job contract signed with a company in Thailand or elsewhere must be produced by foreign working professionals. They must provide documentation of at least five years of work experience in one of the selected industries.
  • Foreign experts and working professionals must prove that they have earned at least 80,000 USD annually in the previous two years.

You may have to provide more documents recommended by the embassy or the consulate where you apply. 

Process

Once you have met the conditions described above, you may apply for a Long-term Resident Visa. 

Visa Processing Time
Applicants will be informed of the confirmation within 30 working days of receiving all required documentation. Within 60 days from the date the endorsement letter was issued, qualified applicants may continue to apply for the issuance of an LTR visa in Thailand.

How to Apply
You may go through the following steps while applying for an LTR visa.

  • Create an account online and fill out a form for an LTR visa qualification endorsement.
  • Applicants will be informed of the outcomes within 30 working days of receiving the completed paperwork.
  • After that, qualified applicants may proceed to apply for the issue of an LTR visa at one of Thailand's immigration offices or the Royal Thai Embassies abroad.
  • Pay the fee for this visa and wait for the confirmation.

Duration
The duration of LTR Visa is 10-years.  

Fees
The processing fee for an LTR visa with multiple entries has been decreased from 100,000 THB to 50,000 THB per person. It costs an annual 3,000 THB for a Digital Work Permit.

Extension

A Long-term Resident visa may be extended for an extra 5 years after it has been initially granted, but not more than this. However, the LTR holder must apply before the current one expires to renew the visa.
