About

The Italian Start-up Visa program is designed for entrepreneurs who want to relocate to Italy to start a new firm (businesses must meet the requirements of Law 221/2012) or join an existing start-up company. Start-up Visas are contingent on the availability of government-issued immigration quotas.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you need to meet the following criteria.

  • You must start a business in Italy.
  • You must be a foreign national.
  • Your business should be based on an innovative idea.

Documents

You need to provide the following documents.

  • Identity documents
  • Proof that you have enough investment
  • Proof of a genuine idea

The requirements regarding the business you are going to start are as follows.

  • Company is either an S.r.l, an S.s.r.l, or an S.p.a (a Company Limited by Shares)
  • The company's principal activity is the "creation, production, and commercialization of innovative goods or services of high technological value." It is worth noting that innovative production methods or systems are acceptable to meet this requirement
  • Business must be operating for minimum 60 months.
  • The company has its main registered office in Italy or has a subsidiary or branch there.
  • The company has no or a low turnover.
  • A firm is not the result of a merger, division, or business transfer from another company.

Process

When to Apply
You should confirm if you are eligible for this visa and have the necessary documentation before you apply. Once you have done that, look for the processing time and apply accordingly.

Visa Processing Time
The Start-Up Visa is expected to take about 2 months from the application time. After receiving the visa, the applicant can go to Italy, apply for a residence permit, and lawfully remain there.

How to Apply
Given below is a step-by-step process of application.

  • Application to the Italian Start-Up Commission for the 'Nulla Osta' (Security Clearance).
  • Apply for a visa at the Italian Consulate in the applicant's home country.
  • Within 8 days of arrival in Italy, submit an application for a residence permit at the appropriate police headquarters.

Duration
The Start-up Visa validity is one year and is renewable.

Fees
This visa costs 116 EUR. But you need to have a certain amount of investment before you apply.

Extension

The residence visa is renewable under the same tangible conditions as the first one, as long as the foreign citizen does not leave Italian territory for more than 6 months at a time.

The applicant can renew their residence permit on their own or with our assistance.

The applicant would be able to qualify for a permanent residence permit after 5 years of constant registered legal residency in Italy.
