The Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) - Conversion to TRV by Marriage is granted to foreign citizens whose country does not have a reciprocity agreement with the Philippines but who have entered into a legal marriage with a Filipino citizen recognized by Philippine law.

This visa lets the applicant stay in the Philippines for five years as long as the visa's conditions are met, such as a legitimate marriage to a Filipino citizen. After then, the visa can be extended as needed.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Temporary Resident Visa, you must be;

  • planning to stay in the Philippines for a short while.
  • in relation to a Filipino citizen.

Documents

You must provide the following documents.

  • Philippines Visa Application Form, you can generally get on the website of the Embassy/Consulate where you are applying or at Embassy/Consulate nearest to you.
  • A passport whose validity is at least additional six months and contains at least two pages where the visa can be attached.
  • Evidence of sufficient financial resources to fund your stay in the Philippines (bank statements, pay slips, etc.).
  • Proof of your relationship in the Philippines.
  • Payment of the visa fee.

Process

The Philippines' visa policy is not particularly strict. They allow visa-free entry to citizens of many countries. These include EU countries, Canada, Australia, and the United States.

Visa Processing Time
From the time the complete documentary requirements are submitted, the process typically takes 1–2 months. TRV holders are not required to obtain an alien work permit if they desire to work in the Philippines.

  • Obtain the CGAF and a checklist of required documents from the Public Information and Assistance.
  • To the Central Receiving Unit (CRU), submit the completed application form, the applicant's passport, and all other prerequisites.
  • To the cashier, pay your visa application fees and wait for the confirmation.

The charge for a TRV application is 8,620 PHP (about 247 USD) for the main applicant, spouse, and any dependents.

Extension

Any Filipino citizen's alien spouse or unmarried children under the age of 21 may apply for TRV. It is eligible for a one-year probationary term. It can be renewed every two years after that.
