This visa allows the holder to visit South Korea and carry out tourism and sightseeing activities, visit a family member, attend an event or any other short stay reason.
For short-term visits, citizens of several countries are not required to obtain a visa to visit South Korea. Foreigners who enter the country under the visa-waiver programme are not permitted to work or participate in remunerated activities.
Suppose you are a citizen of one of the visa-exempt countries but wish to stay more than the visa exemption allows. In that case, you must apply for the appropriate South Korea visa before travelling.
Certain countries are exempted from requiring a visa, including EU countries, Canada, Australia and the United States. These citizens can visit for short-term visits varying from 30-180 days based on their nationality.
You're also exempted from a South Korean Visa if you have a group tourist visa for Japan or are a part of a Chinese group tourist.

The visa takes roughly two weeks but can take more.
When to Apply
Make the embassy visa appointment well in advance of your desired travel date to South Korea, as processing can take up to several weeks. Apply at the latest 15 days before you intend to go, but no earlier than three months.
Duration
The Tourist Visa allows the individual to stay in South Korea for a period maximum of 90 days.

Exceeding your authorized stay or not possessing a valid visa may result in detention and fines. It is recommended to apply at least four months before your visa expires. If an overstay, apply for a visa extension from the Korea Immigration Service (KIS) before attempting to leave the country. Also, consult with KIS regarding changes in the visa category.
