Regarding the dwelling, all residency permits are yearly renewable and have a one-year validity period. After several years of continuous residence in Jordan, a person may apply for citizenship or a five-year residency permit.

Eligibility

To become eligible for a work permit,

  • You must be visiting the country for employment.
  • You should have a proper job offered by the employer.
  • The applicant must have proper accommodation in the country.

Documents

While applying for this visa, you must provide the following documents;

  • A passport with at least two blank pages that is still valid for at least another six months.
  • Evidence of proper accommodations in the country.
  • Evidence of having enough money to support yourself during your visit
  • A duplicate of the employment contract with the employer.
  • A letter from the employer outlining the duration of employment, the nature of the job, and the worker's anticipated pay, if a contract is unavailable.
  • A promise made by the employer that he has adhered to the rules set forth in the visa regulations regarding the steps and conditions needed to get a work permit.

Process

Before obtaining a work visa and permit in Jordan, every foreigner is required to find employment. However, the business must demonstrate to the Ministry of Labor that there are no Jordanian workers with comparable experience and qualifications before they can be hired.

Visa Processing Time
The processing time for a work visa to Jordan differs depending on various factors. For instance, if you are from an Arab country, it will be much easier than someone with a non-Arab nationality. Generally, the visa is processed within a couple of weeks but can take longer.

Duration
The applicants can apply for a single-entry, double-entry or multiple-entry visa. However, a multiple-entry work permit is valid for up to one year. 

Fees
The type of worker and industry determine the cost of a work permit. In sectors other than agriculture, a permit costs 300 JOD for a non-Arab worker, compared to 180 JOD for an Arab worker. A non-Arab worker's permit in agriculture costs 120 JOD, compared to 60 JOD for an Arab worker. 

Extension

The work permit is valid for a one-year period and can be renewed for an equal amount of time. The residence can be further prolonged if you renew it several times. It can lead to five years of residence and eventually permanent citizenship.
