With the rise in remote work trends brought on by the health crisis, the world is becoming more accessible to long-term visitors, but Colombia continues to be one of the most popular locations for digital nomads.

Depending on the nation, a digital nomad visa is a temporary residency permit that enables remote employees to live abroad for anywhere between six months and five years.

Eligibility

An applicant for a digital nomad visa must:

  • You must currently be employed or working as a contractor for clients.
  • You must be a business owner with an overseas operation.
  • You cannot have a source of income from Colombia.

Documents

While applying for a digital nomad visa, you must provide the following documents,

  • A valid passport that is good for at least six months.
  • You must prove that you earn at least 900 USD per month.
  • Provide credentials proving that you are a remote worker working for a client outside Colombia.
  • Provide documents of business outside the country if any.
  • Credentials regarding health insurance and criminal record.
  • Documents of dependents, if any.

Process

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs website will be used to submit applications for the digital nomad visa, as it does for all other Colombian visas. Before getting into the visa application, you must know the visa processing time to avoid any inconvenience.

Visa Processing Time
The validity of the digital nomad visa is up to two years. The average processing time for a Colombia visa application is 5 working days, however, if there are any errors or missing papers, it might take up to 30 days.

  • Submit these documents along with a thoroughly filled visa application form.
  • Pay the visa fee and wait for the approval.

Duration
The digital nomad visa for Colombia is valid for six months to a couple of years. It should be noted that the applicants must meet the minimum pay requirement during their stay there.

Fees
You must pay the visa fee once your Colombian visa for digital nomads has been approved. The cost of this fee can range from 170 USD to 230 USD, depending on a number of variables, such as your dependents.
