About

Foreign nationals who intend to stay in Brazil for more than two years and are related to a Brazilian national or permanent resident, retirees who get a regular pension, and qualifying employees, professors, scientists, or researchers may be given the Permanent Visa (VIPER). Additionally, you may be asked to invest a certain amount of money before applying for this visa. After three years in the country, the visa might lead to citizenship.

Eligibility

There are several options for foreign nationals to qualify for full (permanent) residency:

  • Getting married to a Brazilian citizen.
  • Those who can prove retirement and a stable minimum income may be eligible.
  • Reunion of the family
  • If they're a top scientist or researcher.
  • Individuals who have invested a minimum of 150,000 BRL in a Brazilian company or property investment may be eligible for investment purposes.
  • Being a professional or corporate corporation's administrator, manager, or director.

Documents

You must provide the following documents. 

  • Proof of the child's and Brazilian partner's identities, birth certificates, and declarations of ability to sustain the child are all required.
  • A marriage certificate, verification of the Brazilian partner's identity, and a declaration that the applicant is neither separated from their Brazilian spouse are all required.
  • Evidence of identity for both the present Brazilian resident and the family member who is applying for residency in Brazil.
  • Current Temporary Visa, a certification that the individual seeking residency has never been charged with or convicted of a crime in Brazil or elsewhere.
  • Individuals who invest 150,000 BRL or more in a Brazilian firm or real estate may be eligible for residency.

Process

Brazilian embassies allow petitions for permanent residence. There is significant paperwork to complete and documented evidence to present.

Visa Processing Time
The time it takes to obtain a Brazil visa depends on which Embassy handles your application. However, following completing your application, you should plan on waiting 10 to 15 days.

How to Apply
Individuals already in Brazil are eligible to apply for residence if they meet the requirements. Applications can be submitted to the Brazilian Consulate in the place of origin or within 30 days of arriving in Brazil, albeit the procedure will take at least six months and up to a year. Temporary documents will be given during the process, allowing the applicant to live and work in Brazil.

A Permanent Visa is normally good for nine years. Whereas certain types of persons, such as investors, are required to extend their permanent residence every three years.

This visa costs 360 USD. You have to pay an extra 65 USD if dependents are included.
