Established in 1954 by Prof. Dr Ihsan Dogramaci, it was founded as a faculty of medicine. Hacettepe University is a major university in Ankara. Based on its academic progress and performance, it ranks at the top among Turkish medical schools and universities. It is spread over two main campuses and offers studies in 15 faculties and graduate schools. It is well known for facilities like Law, Economics, Education and Engineering.

It is one of the few institutes in Turkey that offer a more comprehensive range of elective courses in performance arts, fine arts, and physical education. These courses provide both practical hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge.

Hacettepe University follows the mission to train highly qualified individuals for the country’s future in the light of values and utilizing its broad experience in technology, science and art to offer an output in education, research and service for the betterment of society. The university guides around the values of Transparency, equity, cooperativeness, sharing, solidarity, creativity, and innovation.


The University makes sure to educate and facilitate its students as much as possible. There are about 50,000 students at the University, and 3,000 of them are international.

At Hacettepe University, students get facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports. The university organizes team activities for staff members and students in these facilities. At the Beytepe campus, an annual athletic event is organized, which features many sports competitions between schools and faculties. Among numerous outdoor facilities, it has volleyball and basketball courts, American football and soccer field, an Olympic-size swimming pool and tennis courts. For winter recreational sports university has Arslan Gundas lodge, located at an elevation of 1800 meters in Elmadağ. It is 40 kilometres from Ankara. An ice skating rink and ski lift are also available for use.

Spanning a diverse array of fields, there are several student societies and clubs at Hacettepe University. The University provides funding and facilities for these organisations, most of which are run by students and academic advisers. Student societies, faculties, and departments organize social and cultural events such as Spring Festival, Sports Festival and Back to School Welcoming Party.


The University consists of over 2,000 dormitories for students to reside in. These dormitories provide space for around 5,500 students on both campuses. These student residences are operated by the Department of Health Culture and Sports.
