University of Montpellier

The University of Montpellier is a research-intensive institute and plays a leading role in addressing scientific and societal challenges. After the merger of Montpellier University 1 and 2 in 2015 Universite de Montpellier was created. As a result, this university got both institutes' benefits, excellence, and complementarity.

UM brings together a vast community from science to environmental and educational science to techniques and medicine, as well as law, economics, and political sciences. Institute has 16 schools and 78 research centers, which have received international recognition in many scientific fields such as health and biology, chemistry, agri-environmental, information and communication sciences, and technologies and management and law.

University follows the mission to equip future business professionals and managers with knowledge and skill to succeed in a rapidly changing world. UM, endeavors to achieve this by multiplying the connections between high-quality teaching, learning, and research across all fields and collaborating with academic, institutional, and research partners with high aspirations and values.

With an academic staff of 2000 teachers and 41000 students, including 1700 doctoral students, the University of Montpellier is one of the largest universities in France. About 6,100 international students study here. This institute brings together a vast community of knowledge; it offers students an opportunity to train in multiple areas to meet the needs of tomorrow's demanding careers, combining robotics, economics, health, information technologies and law, and more.

This institute is involved in numerous exchange programs. It has links with many universities in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East through cooperation agreements that aim to promote academic mobility and strengthen scientific and pedagogical cooperation.

Montpellier, located in France on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, is a stylish student city. One-third of the city's population comprises students, making it a top-rated study destination. It is home to three large universities and several higher education institutes. The student population makes it a centre of various events and festivals, including international film festivals and summer music festivals.

This university accommodates students in its dormitories and residences. This accommodation can cost you around 15-380 EUR depending on the comfort level. This housing option is cheaper than others because these residences are subsidized by the French government and managed by the government's public institutions, CROUS.

CROUS also provides financial help to deserving students. It grants you a housing allowance of around 60 EUR monthly. But to qualify for this allowance, you must prove that you don't have enough financial means to pay your rent.

  • By QS World Ranking, the University of Montpellier is ranked between 511-502
  • Times Higher Education ranks UM between 301-305 Globally and 9th in France.
  • U.S. New and World Report ranks the University of Montpellier at 192.
