ABOUT

Located on the Bosphorus strait's European side, Bogazici Universitesi is a public university in Turkey. The University was first established in 1863 as Robert College and was later got recognized as University in 1971. Because of such historical background, it has English as a primary language, thus having close ties to the American education system. Bogaziçi Üniversitesi comprises six faculties and institutes that offer undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Bogaziçi Üniversitesi's mission is to educate individuals with universal knowledge respecting ethical standards. Graduates of this University are self-confident, creative, versatile, can think critically and capable of beings successful in their social and professional life.

STUDENTS

The University includes more than 15,000 students in different undergraduate and graduate programs. These students also include about 500 international students from all over the world.

The Athletic Association of Bogaziçi Üniversitesi is one of Turkey's oldest student societies, continuing the tradition of sportsmanship and sports from past to present. This Association organized its first athletics competition in 1898 named "Field Day". Later on, the name of the Association was changed to Sports Board. The Sports Board selects top athletes among students and brings the sports to a higher level worldwide and in Turkey. This board also organizes sports-based events, such as the International Sports Festival and Sports Awards.

The Boğaziçi University Photography Club is the first photography club in Turkey, established in 1929. Members of this club have been getting training in the basic, analogue, darkroom and digital photography for over 90 years. This club organizes various workshops and trips out of the city and also publishes a magazine.

BUEK (Boğaziçi University Electrotechnology Club) was established in 1962 to support the academic and personal development of computer engineering and electronics-electrical engineering students. The mission of this club is to popularize and promote various branches of electronics and electrical engineering at the University.

ACCOMMODATION

Bogaziçi Üniversitesi makes sure to facilitate its students with proper accommodations. The University dormitories provide a comfortable place for about 45% of undergraduate and 10% of graduate students. There are different sized rooms according to the number of students residing there.

Dormitory accommodation is one of Boğaziçi University's priorities. The institute's objective is to protect its student populations from difficult conditions, enable them to enjoy the luxuries of living on campus,, and develop BU student identity.
