RWTH Aachen utilizes its staff's strong research network and intellectual curiosity to drive innovative discoveries, transfer forefront knowledge and address the bold, scientific questions that impact global challenges. Compared to other universities in the country, RWTH has received the highest research grants. Germany's federal and state governments provided this university with an opportunity named the "Excellence Initiative" to strengthen and boost its research profile by fostering interdisciplinary research. Major research programs include data mining, synthetic fuels, production technology, computational science, mobility, health, high-performance materials and renewable resources.

Students

The university has almost 50,000 students, each studying one of the 144 programs offered at RWTH Aachen.

University Sports Center organizes and offers several sports activities. Sports Halls at the university have 6 tennis courts, a fitness centre, outdoor courts, a multifunctional beach facility and a soccer box, and a swimming pool for many water sports activities.

Aachen is a very diverse and historic city. This city has a lot to offer here you get a range of museums, exhibition space of national and international art, classic and modern play in theatres, hot springs of Carolus Thermen, a cathedral treasury and many more.

Accommodation

Typically, RWTH welcomes more than 8,000 new students every winter semester, with hundreds of new employees and guest researchers. In three guest houses of the university, researchers and doctoral candidates are accommodated. Spaces at Studierendenwerk dorms are only for undergraduate students. Still, it is possible for guest researchers and doctoral candidates to stay in this housing.

At RWTH, several student advising services are specialized in providing housing information, for example, AStA Students' Committee, the AusländerInnenVertretung (AV) and the International Office Housing Advice Service.
