Roskilde University

ABOUT

Roskilde University is a public research university established in 1972, offering an alternative to traditional universities. The foundation resulted from the student uprising the  Danish government faced during the 1960s. Unlike other universities, RU took a liberal approach and offered new innovative learning ideas. Some of these ideas were even absorbed by the University of Copenhagen and Aarhus University.

The institution confers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in various social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences fields.

This university's four departments specialize in different areas. These are as follows.

  • Department of Science and Environment (DSE)
  • Department of Social Sciences and Business
  • Department of Communication and Arts (DCA)
  • Department of People and Technology (DPT)

Furthermore, RU provides three international bachelor's degree programmes:

  • International Bachelor Study Programme in the Natural Sciences
  • International Bachelor Study Programme in the Humanities
  • International Bachelor Study Programme in Social Science

This institute has some notable alumni. These include the following.

STUDENTS

The University is considered a home for around 10,000 students in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs. This university welcomes about 200 international students each year through various exchange programs.

Numerous indoor and outdoor sporting and social facilities are available on campus for students.   Furthermore, there are many locations to assemble for social occasions, including two multipurpose courts, soccer, disc golf course, gym, nature paths alongside lakes, streams and fields, student home, innovation workshops, a canteen, and movie theatre, etc. You can also start your own club.

ACCOMMODATION

In general, it might be difficult for students to find housing in Denmark. Danish students typically reside in rented or private dorms, rooms,  or residence halls (referred to in Danish as "kollegium").

Dorm room availability is very popular. However, Roskilde University has reserved a small number of rooms in three different dorms on campus called "Korallen," "Kolibrien," and "Rockwool" for our exchange students. Students can use the basic amenities in the dorms.

The peer-to-peer platform Housing Anywhere, which allows people to rent out rooms to international students, is supported by Roskilde University.
