About

If you have been admitted to a higher education programme in Denmark, you can be granted a permit to stay and study in Denmark. You can complete an entire educational programme or do part of your education as a guest or exchange student.

Suppose you are a resident of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland. In that case, you must apply for an EU residence document rather than a residence permit.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you need;

  • to take admission in a higher education programme in Denmark.
  • a declaration of consent from both of your parents must be signed if you are under 18 and want to study in Denmark. 
  • to be able to communicate in the language used for instruction. 
  • to have a reasonable level of proficiency in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English, or German.

Documents

Gather the following documents before applying for this visa.

  • Documentation of paid case processing fee to SIRI. Attach receipt for your payment.
  • Copy of your passport's entire contents, including all blank pages and the front and back covers. 
  • Documentation proving your enrollment in a school in your country of residence (if you are a guest or exchange student).
  • Documents showing your ability to support yourself while in Denmark.

Process

In this step, you and your educational institution must access the relevant application forms. You can choose between an online form and a print form.

When to Apply
Apply for this visa once you are sure about the admission and whether you want to join or not. Also, look for the processing time and apply accordingly.

Visa Processing Time
The visa is usually processed within 2 months, but it can take longer.

How to Apply
If you apply online, you must choose the application form ST1 online. In the ST1 online form, your educational institution must complete the first two parts of the form. A reference number and password will be displayed once your educational institution has finished their portion, and they must give them to you. After that, you can access the online form and complete your section.

In the printable application form ST1, your educational institution must complete part 2 of the form. You must complete your part after your educational institution completes it. Both parts 1 and 2 must be finished and submitted together.

Duration & Fees

Duration
You can stay in Denmark for the standard (nominal) duration of your educational programme, provided that you participate actively in the programme. 

Fees
The visa for higher education programs costs 1,890 DKK.

Extension

Your permit can be extended for 1 year. As a rule, your permit cannot be extended further if you prolong your studies by more than a year.

However, suppose the prolonging of your studies is caused by pregnancy or parental leave. In these cases, your permit can be extended for 2 years.
