Singapore University of Technology and Design

SUTD- Singapore University of Technology and Design is the 4th public autonomous institute in Singapore, located next to the Upper Changi MRT station. The founding president of SUTD is Thomas L. Magnanti, associated with the (MIT) Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The interim campus of the Singapore University of Technology and Design was at the previous ITE College Dover campus in Dover until December 2014. Through an open selection process and with the collaboration of UNStudio from Amsterdam, the university appointed DP Architects Pte. Ltd. to design the academic cluster of its Upper Changi campus. The university's permanent campus, which opened in January 2015, is situated near the Changi Business Park and on the Downtown MRT Line; Upper Changi Station serves it. As of 2018, SUTD is the only university in Singapore's eastern part.

Technology and design have always been essential for the well-being and prosperity of society. Embracing this tenet, the Singapore University of Technology and Design educates technically grounded leaders steeped in technology, science, and mathematics. Students here have an entrepreneurial and creative approach, have a wide and open perspective informed by social sciences, humanities and arts, and are engaged with the world. SUTD is created to advance knowledge and nurture innovators and leaders to serve societal needs through combined multi-disciplinary research and curriculum. It is a leading research-intensive university focused on all technology and technology-based design elements.

Co-curricular activities at the Singapore University of Technology and Design are known as Fifth Row activities. These are an important part of the complete education of students. SUTD strives to provide students with prospects to develop holistically and promote campus vibrancy to their fullest potential. Over 80 student groups operate on campus, and these are grouped into 5 clusters. Student life in SUTD is more than just studying. The campus atmosphere encourages collaboration, interaction and community building of fellow students, faculty and staff.
