Stellenbosch University, also known as Universiteit Stellenbosch, is a public institute situated in South Africa's Western Cape province, Stellenbosch. It is the oldest university in the country and the oldest present university in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is in Cape Town's metropolitan era and has all the rewards and advantages of a classic institution.

It is a research-intensive institute. Out of the total student population, 36% of students at Stellenbosch University are at the postgraduate level. This makes SU the third largest university in terms of fundamental research among institutions in South Africa. SU has total of 10 faculties: Economics and Management Sciences, Science, Arts and Social Sciences, Engineering, medicine, agricultural sciences, theology, law, military science, and education.

The university aims to maintain and establish, in commitment to excellent research and ideal scientific and academic practice. SU's mission is to provide an environment where knowledge can be discovered, applied, and shared for the benefit of the community.

Students

SU has more than 29,000 students and 5 campuses, and Stellenbosch University has cemented a reputation as a world-class institute. In the university, students get the chance to join a wide variety of associations and societies run and established by students sharing a common interest. These include religious, social awareness, and recreational and political communities.

ISOS (International Student Organisation of Stellenbosch) is the international student organization of SU. It offers students a chance to meet local and international fellow students. This organization was explicitly established to keep international students of Stellenbosch University. ISOS assists students with university basic service information and SU's orientation.

If you enjoy sports, this university is ideal for you to study. Stellenbosch University prides itself on its outstanding sporting achievements and history. Sports offered at SU are: badminton, athletics, cricket, canoeing, cycling, cross-country, fencing, diving, gymnastics, golf, hockey, judo, horse riding, netball, marksmanship, rowing, rugby, squash, soccer, synchronized swimming, tennis, table tennis, underwater sports, triathlon, volleyball, wrestling and water polo.

Accommodation

At Stellenbosch University, there are 34 residential complexes to accommodate students. University lodging is in configuration for men only, women only and mixed. In each housing complex, there is a Residential Head who is assisted by a house committee. And there is also a mentor in the halls to assist new students and help them adjust to campus life.
