ABOUT

Located in Sweden, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) or also called Swedish Agricultural University is a public university. Its campuses are spread throughout the country. It is a world-class international university focused on research, education, and environmental evaluation in the sciences for a sustainable future.

The University was built by merging three veterinary and agriculture colleges in 1977. The state does not directly own it, but the Ministry of Rural Affairs supports it. This institute co-founded the Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS), which was initially started its function in 2001. 

University has approximately 191 professors, with a total academic staff of 1,602. SLU has around 4,434 students, of which 2,570 are undergraduate, 1,280 are postgraduates and 528 are doctoral students. 

The SLU has a total of four faculties. These include the following.

  • Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science 

  • Faculty of Landscape Planning, Horticulture and Agricultural Sciences

  • Faculty of Forest Sciences

  • Faculty of Natural Resources and Agriculture Sciences

One notable alumnus of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences is Professor Anna Tibaijuka. She was the Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements of Tanzania and the ex-Executive Director of UN-HABITAT.

STUDENTS

The University is home to about 5,000 students. Around 60% of Master's students at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences are international from 50 countries worldwide. For international students, look for the Sweden Student Visa to learn more. 

The educational programmes offered by SLU enable students to work on global issues in various fields closely related to the UN sustainability goals. After graduating, many of their students find employment immediately since they are in demand in the job market. 

Plus, a vast majority of subjects are taught in English, which comprises almost 40 per cent of total subjects. So the language barrier will not cause much trouble for international students

Students are awarded a few scholarships each year. Their fee-paying applicants accepted to bachelor's and master's programmes may apply for it. It is provided by SLU to only for tuition; it does not cover living or travel costs. Even if you apply for a it, you still have to pay the application cost.

ACCOMMODATION

If you are a fee-paying student, you do not need to worry about accommodations as the University will take care of it. Otherwise, you are advised to look for a private residence as you get admission.
