University of Strasbourg

About

The University of Strasbourg is a public institute located in northeastern France in the city of Strasbourg. This city is near the country’s border with Germany. This university traces its roots back to 1538, though it was formed by merging three institutes. In 2009, it formed the institution called Université de Strasbourg.

This institute follows a semester-based academic calendar. It offers courses across five broad academic disciplines, including arts, law, literature and languages, management, economics, political and social sciences, science and technology, social sciences and humanities, and health. Primarily courses here are taught in French, but several graduate courses are taught partially in English.

The University campus covers a large area near the centre of the city. It has modern architectural buildings, including the famous building Escarpe, the Doctoral College of Strasbourg. Renowned London-Based Nicholas Hare Architects designed the Doctoral College of Strasbourg student residencies in 2007.

Students

International students represent 20% of the student body of the University of Strasbourg. Students from 150 countries come here to study, which makes Strasbourg one of the top international cities for students in France. In 2021 more than 46,500 students attended this multicampus institution, and around 36% of them pursued an undergraduate degree. One-fifth of the total student body was international due to the cost to attend the university being the same for native and international students.

Accommodation

This institute accommodates students with fully furnished rooms and studio apartments with shared sanitary and kitchen facilities. This housing option is intended for students with low budgets, and they have limited space here. This living space has a space of 5000 beds. CUROS manages this residence, which is subsidized by French Government, due to which rents here range from 175-473 EUR monthly.

Finding a living space is one of the great challenges here. If you cannot find accommodation in CROUS housing, you must go for private space or social housing. Prices for these options depend on your profile, stay length, and budget.
