About

York University, or YorkU, is a public institute in Ontario, Toronto, Canada. Established in 1959, YU is a denominational institute which received Royal Assent in Ontario's Legislative Assembly. Since then, this institute has been helping global thinkers and thinking that will help define the future tomorrow. It is the fourth largest institution in Canada with a commitment to excellence. It mirrors a strong sense of social responsibility and rich diversity of perspectives.

YU has 11 faculties, including the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, Lassonde School of Engineering, Osgoode Hall Law School, Schulich School of Business, Glendon College, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Faculty of Health, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, Performance and Design, School of the Arts, Media and 28 research centres.

The mission of YorkU is to preserve, disseminate, and pursue knowledge. York University promises excellence in teaching and research in applied, pure and professional fields. The university test the structure and boundaries of knowledge. YU value diversity and encourages bilingual study. This institution is open to the world. It has a community of faculty, staff, students, volunteer, and alumni committed to accessible education, academic freedom, social justice and collegial self-governance.

Students

YorkU, Canada's 4th largest institute, has a student population of nearly 55,700 and more than 325,000 alumni worldwide. This university is home to over 350 student societies and clubs. The student levy fees support several significant student associations. Most of these include the local aspects of the social justice organization Regenesis and OPIRG, an environmental association that runs farmers' markets at the Glendon and Keele campuses, a community bike centre, a free store and a borrowing centre.

This institute offers many sports opportunities in its 12 clubs, 29 inter-university sports teams, 35 intramural sports competitions, and special events. At York University, several sports facilities include 4 gymnasia, a football stadium, 5 sports playing fields, 9 outdoor tennis courts, 4 softball fields, 6 ice arenas, 3 aerobic studios, and a swimming pool. 

Accommodation

The university operates 8 undergraduate residential complexes for the students. Most traditional residence buildings have standard shared single and double rooms with common lounge areas and washrooms. For upper-year students, York University has some suite-style facilities, in which students have shared amenities and clean and cook for themselves.
