United Kingdom
#workvisa #skilledworkers

Great opportunity for graduates of world high-ranking universities, the United Kingdom is offering a new work visa called the High Potential Individual Visa (HPI). Due to this, you can work as a volunteer or be self-employed and stay in the UK for 2 to 3 years. Graduates at an earlier stage of their career can apply for this visa. Moreover, visa holders will not need any sponsor or job offer. Also, it is given only once, and those who already have a Graduate visa cannot apply for it.

The primary purpose of HPI is to simplify the process of application for skilled individuals and, in turn, benefit the UK's economy by utilizing their exceptional skills. HPI visa is yet to be launched, but much information is still available. In this article, you will get to know the eligibility and facts about this visa.

High Potential Individual Visa Eligibility

The most important eligibility criteria is that the university must be highly ranked for an individual to qualify for an HPI visa. These universities should be in the top 50 in the list of a minimum of two to three renowned rankings. These include.

  • Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings
  • Times Higher Education World University rankings
  • The Academic Ranking of the World University

This graduation degree can be in any field and must not be less than a UK bachelor's degree. Furthermore, the applicant must receive their graduation degree within five years before applying. For example, if applying in 2022, you should have received your degree no earlier than 2018.

HPI Visa UK University List

The list of eligible universities is given on the website of the UK government. It mentions world-renowned universities of the last six years, from 2016 to 2021. As such the names of the qualifying universities will be published on gov.uk once a year.

HPI UK Visa Requirements

After knowing the qualified universities, you need to know about other requirements that make you eligible for HPI. These requirements are related to language and finance.

English Language

If you are taught in English, you will need a university transcript or certificate from the awarding body. In case you are not taught in English, you need the minimum B1 level of the accepted English language test.

To add, in case the degree was earned outside of the UK, Ecctis will need to validate that it fits the requirements for a UK bachelor's, master's, or doctorate level degree.

Finance

Applicants need to have the equivalent of £1,270 in their bank account for 28 days before applying. But you do not need to meet this requirement if you have been resident in the UK for more than 12 months.

High Potential Individual Visa Fees & Duration

The visa cost is £715 for HPI. Also, the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) will apply to you.

Stay depends on the level of your degree. It means that bachelor's or master's graduates will stay for two years, and individuals who did PhD or other Doctorate level degrees can stay up to three years.

When a visa expires, you cannot apply for a Permanent Residency. Rather than this, you can apply for exceptional talent, skilled worker, scale-up route or start-up and innovator permits.

Which Dependents Can Join You In The UK

Yes, you can bring dependents with you. These include spouses, children below 18 and older parents. Partner is also qualified as a dependent. They may be unmarried or civil partners. In the case of an unmarried partner, they need to provide proof of a minimum of 2 years of living together.
