The Maynooth, also known as the National University of Ireland, is a constituent institute of the National University of Ireland in County Kildare, Ireland. Maynooth University offers an outstanding education in a range of undergraduate & postgraduate courses led by internationally renowned researchers. The university is divided into 3 faculties: Arts, Celtic Studies and Philosophy, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences.

The character, history, trajectory and profile of Maynooth University give it an exclusive position in Ireland’s higher education landscape. This institute was formally established in 1997 as an autonomous university, but its origin roots back in 1795, to the foundation of Maynooth Royal College of St. Patrick. This university today has an international standing, famous for its scholarship and research value and quality, its commitment to top-notch teaching, outstanding learning experience and unique collegial environment. It is differentiated from all Irish educational institutions. Maynooth University has distinctive strength in 6 top thematic research areas: Social and Economic Transformations, People, Place and Environment, Mathematics, Human Health, Computation and Communications, Humanities, Human Cultures, Creativity and Experience.

Students

The university has over 13,000 students and over 900 staff from over 20 countries. Currently, there are over 100 societies and clubs at Maynooth University. Clubs on campus include Gaelic football, rugby, judo, hurling & camogie, ultimate Frisbee, badminton, Aussie Rules, kickboxing, swimming, archery, tennis, and surfing, trampolining, skiing, golf, hockey, Olympic handball, chess, self-defence equestrian. Most of these clubs participate in an intervarsity sporting competition known as 35s.

The Maynooth University Drama Society has a colourful history of theatre and drama, which can be traced back to prominent alumni such as Brain Friel and internationally famous playwright Frank McGuiness. Throughout the year, Students of St Patrick’s College participate in several dramatic productions ranging from comedy to tragedy, farce, melodrama and improvement.

Other prominent societies at the university are dance, music, biology, art (Playdo), poetry, Tea Society, fashion (StyleSoc), French language society, History Society (Cuallacht na Gaeilge), Chinese society, and Psychology Society. At Maynooth university, there are several political societies such as Social Democrats and Socialist Society, Labor Youth etc.

Accomodation

Maynooth Student Residences offers a licenced rental arrangement for full-time registered students of Maynooth University. There are 4 residential halls on campus, situated on the North Campus. All the apartments, flats and studios are open plan with a fully equipped kitchen.
